Baby Millie

Millie-131-1

Here I’m going to share some lovely pictures of baby Millie from when she was about 8 months old.  Whereas with newborn photography you might spend most of the time trying to get baby to sleep, with a baby of this age there is a lot more interaction – in this case a parent or grandparent standing behind me making funny noises or waving favourite toys:-)

Each stage has its different challenges for the photographer, but I do enjoy photographing a baby of this age because you are starting to get a bit more expression, and can see a bit of personality starting to emerge.  The session is also a bit more intense, as there is very little downtime for changes, feeding or settling,  and a lot more movement, which can be fun.

These images are from last spring, and I recently had a follow-up session with Millie, who is of course now walking and starting to talk.  I’ll share those pictures soon, and see how she is changing:-)

Thanks,

Foz

Baby Theodore

Theodore-64

Following on from Joyce’s bump shoot, I have great pleasure to share some pictures of little Theodore :-)

At the time of this session, he was just 2 weeks old, and still very willing to curl up and sleep.  This is perfect for lovely newborn photographs, as I was able to carefully move him into different poses.

He was a little star, and generally slept well. It still took something over 4 hours to complete the shoot, as there was a cycle of wake/feed/change/settle/sleep/pose/shoot that we went through a few times.  That did enable me to change the backgrounds and set-ups for some nice variety. Even finishing off by including mum and dad.     I love so many of these shots, and really enjoyed the session.

I also love my cute little newborn baby hats! Not sure which I like best, but I’m looking forward to using them more in my shoots.

I’m hoping to be able to share some more newborn photos soon.

Thanks,

Foz

Baby Edie @ 6 Months

Edie-84

I thought I would share some more pictures of baby Edie. This was from my second session with her last December, when she was around 7 months old,  sitting up and moving around. Isn’t she sweet?

(If you want to see what she looked like when she was little, you can check out my first set of images here:- Baby Edie )

For this session I had taken some handy backgrounds with me so we could get a bit of variety from the session – all these were shot in the same 5′ x 5′ area.  Edie seemed keen to move around quite a lot, so we did have to keep her busy with some toys to begin with, but patience and planning pays off, and I love some of these images.  The bubbles in particular worked really well both to get Edie’s attention and keep her still, while also adding some interesting elements to the pictures.  It was even more of a challenge to get the family’s dog, Maddie, to cooperate, but we got there in the end:-)

I’m looking forward to another session with Edie when she is starting to walk.  I’m hoping mum will be up for a “cake-smash” series in that session. We’ll see…..

Baby Eoghan

Eoghan-12-Edit

Here are some images of baby Eoghan (pronounced Owen), when he was about 8 weeks old. I think this is a lovely age to photograph babies, as they have filled out a bit from newborn and their skin is generally in lovely condition.  You also get a lot more eye-contact – just check out this little guy’s eyes!

All these were shot in Eoghan’s own home, just using natural light. Isn’t he sweet?  My own personal favourite is the shot where he is in the hat and his eyes are drooping shut – that stage where babies are somewhere between awake and asleep always gets me.

Do you have a favourite?

Anyway, I hope you enjoy these. I have been doing more baby sessions, so there will be more coming up in future posts.

Oh, and Happy New Year!

Newborn Millie

IMG_9970

I was thrilled when I heard that Becky and Jason were expecting a baby, as I had photographed their wedding last summer. I was even more excited when they asked me if I would take some photographs when the baby was born.

I finally met Millie Grace when she was jkust 2 weeks old, and she was still at that lovely newborn stage where she was not doing much beyond feeding and sleeping:-)  I shot most of these images with Millie on a bed, using just window light, which was lovely and soft.  We tried a number of “poses” with and  without props, but the ones of her sleeping are among my favourites.

I finished off the session with some shots with mum and dad, lit by a couple of flashes, and I think these worked really well, too.

One difficulty with this particular session was that Millie had quite a lot of milk spots (which of course had cleared up a week later!). We could have postponed the session until her skin had cleared, but then we might have missed that lovely newborn stage which lasts such a short time.  I decided to go ahead with it and try to minimise the appearance of spots by using good lighting, and knowing that I could also do some work on her skin in post-production.  I’m glad we did go ahead on the day, although there was quite a lot of work for me to do to clear up her skin!   I love the lack & white conversions here, as I think that removing colour (apart from a subtle toning) adds a little atmosphere to the shots, and gives a sense of tranquility.

Anyway, Becky now has some lovey images from a very special time with her new baby,  and she wonderfully emotional when she saw the images for the first time. That makes it all worthwhile for me, and it’s what I love about baby shoots:-)

Let me know what your favourites are…….

More baby pictures next time? Or perhaps a wedding?

Thanks,

Foz

Cute Toddler Edith

Edith-83

I recently had the pleasure of spending an afternoon with little Edith to take some pictures. She was absolutley adorable, and just starting to talk – such a cute stage:)

It was a very informal shoot, with very little attempt to get Edith to pose. Just as well, because she was full of beans and didn’t want to spend much time sitting still! I had to work hard to keep up with her at times.

When I arrived she was having a bit of lunch, so I started with a few shots of her eating. I know she is a bit messy, and that’s not to everyone’s taste, but the whole food thing is such a big part of having a young child……and I think these shots are lovely.

She then had a bit of time playing in the lounge, and I borrowed a large canvas painting from one of the walls to act as a colourful backdrop.  Edith then did a bit of painting herself (literally!) before we moved into the garden for a few last shots.

So, I hope you like these pictures. Please feel free to leave a comment, or to share via Facebook.

Thanks for looking,

Beautiful Baby Edie

I’ve been busy recently, focusing on babies and children before the wedding season gets into full swing. I really enjoy baby sessions, as it is such a different connection, and different pace.  I’m going to share some of those shots over the next couple of posts.

First up is little Edie, who was adorable and aged about 8 weeks here. She was a real sweetie, and seemed to enjoy the shoot :)  This particular shoot was at the family home, and all of these images were lit with natural window light. I’m hoping to return when Edie is 6 months old, so watch this space.

Thanks,

Foz
